The Association of Rootes Car Clubs The official web site of the Association of Rootes Car Clubs (ARCC) Mon, 05 Dec 2016 10:26:58 +0000 en-US hourly 1 120851751 New for 2016 – Exclusive ARCC Club Member Insurance Scheme. Tue, 02 Aug 2016 11:53:46 +0000 The Association of Rootes Car Clubs is always looking for ways to enhance benefits for members and we are pleased to announce, with immediate effect, the introduction of a new and exclusive insurance scheme to ARCC Member Clubs to replace the previous scheme.

We have arranged a scheme with CLASSICLINE who are well respected classic car insurance providers based in Hinckley, Leicestershire. They have been in business for just over 30 years and have tailored a scheme to suit our needs.

Unlike many other specialists, Classicline deal mainly with niche car insurance, so you can be sure that when you make contact with them you get the right person straight away. Whilst they do have online enquiry and quote facilities, they encourage direct telephone enquiries and personal contact. They have dedicated staff who have many years of dealing with classic car owners, and the senior management are enthusiasts too, sharing our hobby.

We wanted to choose an insurer that gave us a complete package as standard. The policy which Classicline are offering us automatically includes the following:

  1. Comprehensive cover, with continental use included.
  2. Unlimited mileage. This will apply to all our club vehicles. Members will be asked to limit.
  3. UK and Continental breakdown and recovery included with Home Start.
  4. Sensible policy excesses.
  5. A dedicated claims line is used for claims reporting and should any vehicle be subject importantly, the policyholder will be able to choose a repairer of his or her own choice. This eliminates the use of modern vehicle approved repairers who have limited experience of repairing classic cars.
  6. Uninsured loss recovery insurance is often a chargeable extra, but this again will be included within the premium quoted.
  7. Discounted rates for ARCC member clubs.

In addition, Classicline will also offer the following if required:

Agreed valuation can be included, subject to approval by Classicline’s in-house valuer and we strongly advise this. Club valuations will also be accepted.

Young drivers can be catered for from the age of 18 with at least 12 months with a full drivers licence in force.

The scheme has the facility to add additional vehicles once an initial Classic Car policy has been issued. These can be any other classic or modern vehicles owned by the policyholder and provides the ability to have all vehicles covered under one contract. Any vehicles added mid-term will be charged at a pro rata premium up to the initial renewal date. This means that the ARCC discount can be applied to your main modern vehicles as well. For those members wanting to keep a separate policy for each vehicle and maintain different renewal dates, this is also possible. Complete flexibility being the aim for members.  Car trailers can also be insured

Home insurance quotations can be provided, with the option to include specific cover for your own vehicle spares and workshop tools kept for personal use.

Have you ever considered the value of the vehicle spares on your property?

We have looked at example quotations and find the premiums to be extremely competitive. This scheme is available now and we would encourage members to give it a try and feel certain that you will be happy with the premium quoted, especially when taking into account the excellent policy cover provided. The ARCC committee certainly feels that the scheme must be regarded as a valued membership benefit.

Classicline can be contacted on the telephone on 01455 639 000 or online at

We will be monitoring the progress of the scheme over the coming months but should you have any queries or observations to make, please feel free to contact James Spencer 01295 255539, .

Building the Future! Thu, 15 Oct 2015 15:55:49 +0000 The Rootes Archive Centre Trust (RACT), in a project led by Matt Ollman of the RACT and Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club, has launched an ambitious but exciting building fund program to raise the capital required to purchase a permanent home.

The RACT is based in Banbury, Oxfordshire and has been preserving and protecting the original material from the Rootes/Chrysler Engineering Department for the last 12 years.

The archive includes hundreds of thousands of detailed manufacturing drawings from the 1930s through to the early 1980s as well as marketing, sales and servicing literature and photographs. The material is complemented with artefacts such as the Rootes boardroom table and chairs from Devonshire House, a large 3D model of the Linwood Plant and various dealership signage items and continues to grow as further items are collected and saved for current and future generations of Rootes enthusiasts. Access to interested parties is encouraged and club committees hold regular meetings at the centre. The RACT also recently created a Facebook page and so is now reaching more classic vehicle devotees than ever before.

The RACT currently rents a shared user building. This is its second premises, after a move from its previous unit in a business park was necessary to reduce rocketing rent rises. However, ever increasing rental costs and the risks associated with short term contracts puts it in a continuously precarious position. The Trustees have always had to keep a keen eye on the long term viability of the RACT and think that the time is right to consider alternatives…including the possibility of purchasing a permanent home through an innovative donation program.

This is history in the making! Would you like to be part of this special project? The RACT is initially seeking pledges of £500 donations from individuals. This could be as a one-off payment, in five annual instalments or even as a standing order of £1.93 per week for five years. If enough people come together to support this inspiring venture, then our unique Rootes archive could enter the next chapter in its fascinating journey!

In addition to financial pledges, volunteers with relevant expertise are vital. Please do step forward if you can assist in any of the following areas: Marketing; Property Law; or VAT. You would be joining a dedicated sub-committee of forward-thinking individuals responsible for driving the project.

Matt is delighted to be part of this initiative: “Since joining the board of trustees over five years ago it has been my desire to secure modern fit-for-purpose premises for the archive and with the launch of this this program and the support from members of the Rootes car fraternity we can really make history and secure a permanent home for the fascinating archive material associated with our vehicles.” Matt can be contacted at with any enquires or to pledge financial support or time to the program.
